UKCA is short for UK Conformity Assessed. On February 2, 2019, the British government announced that it will adopt the UKCA logo scheme in the absence of a Brexit agreement. After March 29, trade with the United Kingdom will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The original transition period for Brexit will expire at the end of 2020. During the transition period, regarding the circulation of goods, personnel, services, and freedom of payment to the United Kingdom, to a large extent, the United Kingdom is still regarded as a member of the European Union.

UKCA certification

The UKCA mark is the same as the CE mark. The manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that the product meets the standards set by the law, and after self-declaration in accordance with the prescribed procedures, the corresponding mark is made on the product. Manufacturers can seek testing by qualified third-party laboratories to prove that products meet relevant standards and issue AoC, which is the basis for the manufacturer's self-declaration DoC. The DoC needs to include key parameter information such as the manufacturer's name and address, and the product model.

UKCA certification will replace the CE certification currently implemented by the European Union, and most products will be included in the scope of UKCA certification. In terms of market access for electrical products, the CE marking scheme will continue to be implemented.

Once the UK is Brexit, the existing UK certification body will be automatically upgraded to UKCA NB and listed in the UK version of the NANDO database (Notified and Designated Organisations). The 4-digit NB number will remain unchanged for identification purposes CE marked products approved by the NB organization that are already in use or circulating on the market. The United Kingdom began to open applications to other EU NB institutions in early 2019, and only after they have been authorized can they issue NB certificates for the UKCA NB institutions.
